The Cathedral Café

The Cathedral Café will be situated in the Cathedral Hall (adjacent to St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral) and will be open from Tuesday July 8th until Thursday July 10th from 9.00am until 6.00pm. This area will be a place for local and international World Youth Day Pilgrims to be welcomed by young adults from Adelaide on arrival; relax in comfort with a tea or coffee; have access to free internet use; receive S.A. Tourism information; purchase WYD Adelaide Apparel; visit the ‘‘Vocations Corner” ; and meet and socialise with other local and international pilgrims.

There will be ambient music, allowing a space of contemplation as people read the displays, or sit to read the booklets. There will also be an opportunity to meet and talk with Br Rod, Fr Dean, Sr Tracy, Fr Matthew and Deng.

St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral
The Cathedral is open every day for local and international pilgrims to visit during this period and a special WYD Prayer Space will be set up for prayer and reflection. Pilgrims can attend Mass either at 8am, 12.10pm or 5.45pm. On Tuesday July 8th and Thursday July 10th there will also be Mass at 9am especially for WYD pilgrims. On Tuesday July 8th, Wednesday July 9th and Thursday July 10th there will be a WYD Prayer Service – `The Inner and Outer Journey’ at 2.00pm featuring prayer, praise, music and inspiration. Tours of the Cathedral will also be available on these days at 3.00pm, 3.30pm and 4.00pm.

There are two other important Diocesan celebrations taking place in the Cathedral during this week as well. On Monday, July 7th at 6pm, there will be a Mass in the presence of His Eminence Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and President of the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon. This Mass will be conducted according to the Maronite Rite. On Tuesday July 8th at 7pm, Deacon Matthew Newman will be ordained to the Priesthood. All are invited to these celebrations.


The Wakefield Tavern
Across the road from St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, the Wakefield Tavern – 76 Wakefield St, is offering discount vouchers for meals for local and international WYD Pilgrims and WYD friendly spaces for pilgrims to gather and have a meal together. The discount vouchers will be available in the Cathedral Café.
