Seven Simple Steps to establish a WYD08 pilgrim group for your community
1. WYD Contact person in your parish/movement
Ask your WYD Contact person if your community is organising a group to attend WYD. If they are, this person can help you register. If plans to send a group haven't been made yet, ask the WYD Contact person to identify someone in your community who may be suitable to lead a group or link with a neighbouring community who has organised a group already.
2. 'Group Leader' of Pilgrim Group
The person who will be leading your community's group is called a "Group Leader'. This person needs to register for WYD through the Egeria System.
The Group Leader will receive a code number for the group. Register the group under the name of your parish/movement/school/community. It is important that you record within the registration process that you are from the Archdiocese of Adelaide, as this will ensure our office makes links with you.
4. Announce that your community will take a group to WYD08 in Sydney
Inform the young people in your community that a group has been organised to go to WYD in Sydney. Promote the groups code number so that other young people in your community can register on line within the same group. Alternatively, the Group Leader may register their details if they are provided to him/her. A list of Groups already registered is attached below. If you would like to join an already existing group and there are no contact details listed then please contact Oreste Farrugia at oreste.farrugia@ceo.adl.catholic.edu.au
5. Establish a core leadership group
The WYD Coordinating Committee of the Archdiocese of Adelaide has produced a document outlining "Duty of Care" requirements for Pilgrim groups. Your group may include a priest(s) or lay person as a chaplain to the group.
6. Communication with WYD Coordinating Committee of Archdiocese of Adelaide
Keep checking this website for regular updates about WYD.
Inform Oreste Farrugia (oreste.farrugia@ceo.adl.catholic.edu.au) of your groups code number and the names of the people within it.
Attend the Information Forums and Leader Induction Training that will be held - further information will be posted on this site. You may wish to run your own meetings for your group also.
7. Engage the young people in fundraising activities together
Your group may decide to fundraise to assist with registration costs. Through fundraising efforts the pilgrims will develop friendships with each other and also other members of the parish.
The WYD Registration Enquiry phone number (Sydney) is 1300 993 793, should you wish to contact them directly.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation to and from Sydney for WYD08 has been identified as a major issue due to the large number of people expected to travel to Sydney in July. Therefore, to avoid disappointment, it is imperative that pilgrimage groups book their transport to Sydney as soon as possible.
HOW DO I GET TO SYDNEY?
Harvest Youth Tours have been appointed as the Official Australian WYD08 Tour Operator. As such, Harvest have secured thousands of Sydney bound seats on planes, trains and coaches. Access their special group travel prices as follows:
If you need further clarification regarding this process then contact Harvest Youth Tours directly through their website ‘contact us’ page. All travel to Sydney must be arranged outside of your Days in the Diocese activities.
You may also arrange travel and accommodation through your own local travel agent.
