RE: VOCAL POWERHOUSE GOSPO COLLECTIVE TO HEADLINE LOCAL WORLD YOUTH DAY FESTIVAL IN ADELAIDE
The Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults (COYYA) is excited to announce that South Australian vocal group Gospo Collective will take to the stage during the upcoming World Youth Day 2019 celebrations at Sacred Heart College in January.
Combing African rhythm and western harmony, as well as hymns and hip-hop, Gospo Collective was born from a love of people, a passion for education and the belief that music brings humans a deeper understanding of themselves and others, and since its first production GospoCentric in 2009, has been renowned as Adelaide’s leading vocal powerhouse.
A sell-out favourite at the Adelaide Fringe Festival (Gospolation, 2017, and Jackson Vs Jackson, 2018), Gospo Collective combine secular and sacred music and display the intricacy of the human voice through its vocal ensemble which is accompanied by accomplished instrumentalists and led by director, conductor, arranger and composer Charmaine Jones.
The huge success of recent productions such as The Gospel According to Earth, Wind and Fire, as well as performing with Leo Sayer at the Leukaemia Foundation’s Light the Night, depict the group’s seamless ability to move between various musical styles to reach a wide audience.
As part of World Youth Day Adelaide 2019, Gospo Collective will headline the evening concert (supported by Genevieve Bryant and Sacred Stone), and Charmaine Jones will be offering a world class workshop, ‘The Voice Within’, for young people during the festival day.
World Youth Day Adelaide 2019 will take place on Sunday 27 January 2019, and will be the largest gathering of Catholic youth in Adelaide since the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) in 2015. The festival will feature over 35 musical acts and speakers, two live music stages, workshops, speaker panels, food trucks, amusements and a youth-led mass. Guests already announced include The Genevieve Bryant Band (Melbourne), Sacred Stone, and Jesuitical: A Podcast for Young Catholics (USA), with many more being announced soon.
