GOOD FRIDAY NIGHT WALK

“Lift Up” on Good Friday—a pilgrimage of faith, reflection, and hope.

WHAT WAS IT?

Good Friday Night Walk: A Journey of Reflection & Hope

This Good Friday, young people and families are warmly invited to join an evening pilgrimage walk through the heart of the city. As we journey together into the stillness of the night, we will pause to reflect on the significance of this sacred day and create space for hope, even in moments of darkness.

Hosted by the Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults (COYYA), this all-ages pilgrimage weaves together prayer, scripture, music, and reflective moments inspired by the faith and leadership of young people across the Archdiocese.

We invite everyone—young people, families, and the wider community—to step into this shared journey. Together, we will honour the solemn beauty of Good Friday, lift up the voices and presence of our young people, and deepen our reflection on the mystery and hope of Easter.

FAQs

  • This walk was open to everyone, especially families and young people. Whether participants came with friends, family, or on their own, they were part of a welcoming community journeying together.

  • We will begin and end at the same location, journeying through the heart of the Adelaide CBD. Starting at our first site, the Mary MacKillop Plaza location adjacent the St Francis Xavier Cathedral, we will then journey down King William St and to our next site at St Patrick’s Church via South Tce and West Tce. Here we will pause for prayer and reflection before completing the second half of our walk back to the Cathedral, continuing north up West Tce and walking along Currie St. At the Cathedral we will complete our walk with our final session.

  • No, this was a free event open to all. However, we kindly asked participants to register so we could plan accordingly. Registration was available via the button at the top of the page.

    • Comfortable walking shoes: Make sure your shoes are up for the walk!

    • A water bottle: Stay hydrated along the way.

    • Weather-appropriate clothing: We encourage you to embrace the weather—whether it’s cool or warm, prepare for the conditions of the evening. Bring layers if needed, and an umbrella just in case!

    • A small flashlight or phone light (optional): For visibility if needed as we walk into the evening.

  • The walk covered approximately 6.5 km in total, and we expected it to take around 2 hours of walking time. However, we broke the journey down into two stretches across the evening to allow for reflection, rest, and stops along the way. This made it a comfortable pace for everyone to enjoy the experience!
